Technology Challenge

Technology Challenge

Garenne were pleased to be headline sponsor again this year for the CIGPE Technology Challenge. This is an annual event run in Guernsey by the Channel Islands Group of Professional Engineers which aims to inspire year 9 students from all of Guernsey’s schools about engineering and technology. This year the teams were challenged to design and build an electric vehicle which could travel along a wire and burst a water balloon. Fifty students took part in the challenge which is designed to help develop skills in problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork and communication.

This year the ten teams were named after Garenne companies with each team having an advisor from industry to guide them; Garenne further supported the event via a number of the team advisors being from Garenne companies.

Awards were judged by Guernsey’s Lt-Governor Vice-Admiral Sir Ian Corder rating the team’s vehicles on performance, design and the  teamwork involved.

The AFM team won fastest time, Granite Le Pelley won best engineered and Garenne Natural Stone took the prize for best teamwork.
